The brain is locked in total darkness, of course, children, says the voice. It floats in a clear liquid inside the skull, never in the light. And yet the world it constructs in the mind is full of light. It brims with color and movement. So how, children, does the brain, which lives without a spark of light, builds for us a world full of light?

Le cerveau est bien sûr enfermé dans une obscurité totale, les enfants, dit la voix. Il flotte dans un liquide clair à l’intérieur du crâne, sans aucune lumière. Et pourtant, le monde qu'il édifie dans notre esprit en est plein. Il déborde de couleur et d'activité. Alors, les enfants, comment se fait-il que le cerveau, qui subsiste sans même un éclat de lumière, puisse nous construire un monde plein de lumière ?
